Only slightly.. In 3D software it's just a image plane, subdivided a number of times on the axis you need to bend. It's the same principles in the bending of actual 3D models to multiple bones, only used on a 2D plane.
Thanks Shiu, I hope you reach that stretch goal then. Like you say, the hardest part is the implementation. For ease of use, something like After Effects' puppet tool implementation is maybe the way to go (although, I hate the lack of customization you get when it's that simple)
