  • Issue: Timeline stops while trying to record the screen on Mac.

Hi.
I'm trying to record some preview animations on my MacBook using standard MacOS recorder (Quick Time). When I open the recorder window, movement on timeline stops and play/pause buttons don't react when click. I even need to restart Spine after I closed the recorder.

I use 4.1.24 on MacBook Pro with Sonoma 14.4.1

I have complicated projects with many skeletons inside so it's problematic to make a preview export in Spine itself. Also I remember that on Spine 3 the recorder worked perfectly.

Any ideas how to fix that?

It seems that the issue you're experiencing with the timeline stopping when using QuickTime to record on your MacBook might be related to how Spine interacts with certain system-level operations or software. Spine uses OpenGL for rendering, which can sometimes cause conflicts with screen recording software. While there isn't a specific fix mentioned for this exact issue, you might want to try a few troubleshooting steps:

    1. Ensure that no other software that might interfere with Spine is running, such as screen sharing or display link software.
    2. Try using a different screen recording software to see if the issue persists.

If these steps don't resolve the issue, it might be worth checking if any recent macOS updates or software installations could be causing the conflict.

krutovig Hmmm, I am a MacBook Pro user and I can record the editor window with the animation playing with no problem as long as I record with the standard on-board screen recording:

(This was tested using Spine 4.1.24.)

So, I guess Spinebot could be right that some other software is interfering with recording.
However, a known problem with macOS is that when you start screen recording, for some reason, the shift and cmd keys are determined to remain pressed, so you have to press each key once to release the state. In Spine, if you hold down the cmd key and click the playback button, the timeline bar does not move, so that may be why the playback appears to be stuck. Could you try pressing the shift and cmd keys respectively after starting the recording and see if that solves the problem?

Misaki OMG you're genius. How do you even learn that? It totally helped, thank you a lot

krutovig I'm glad it was helpful! I don't remember how I learned it either, since I discovered it a long time ago 😅
