PS script sometimes baking extra layers to sprites

Like the title says, for me the PS script sometimes adds one layer to another. Both are exported, but one of the layers ends up having another one baked in it.

I've seen this before in several versions, and happens now. This appears to be random. One file can merge different layers on different tries.

I work around this pretty easily, but thought you should know this happens.

Does the script you're using come from this source: spine-scripts/photoshop at master · EsotericSoftware/spine-scripts ?
If not, please replace your script with the one from the link. This problem was a bug we solved before, so we first need to make sure you're not simply using an outdated version (:

It seems my script was an older version, because it didn't have a 'write json' checkbox. I assumed it was updating automatically when Spine updates.

BUT the new script (the one from your link) doesn't seem to fix the problem =\
