First attempts with meshes!

I'm new to meshes, and did two quick studies on Ayran Oberto's amazing art!

This is some amazing stuff! Would you mind to share something about the process? Like some screenshot of the mesh for example. Also, could you estimate how long it took you? I am really curious.
