We've fixed this in 3.4.01, which we should release today. The problem is actually not project loading, but with the Metrics view. You can delete your Spine preferences file (so the Metrics view won't be visible) if you'd like to get past the problem sooner:

Windows: <user home folder>\Spine\prefs.json
Mac: <user home folder>/Library/Application Support/Spine/prefs.json
Linux: <user home folder>/.spine/prefs.json
