  • Different Skin and Mesh animation Issue

Hi guys.

Hope you are doing good.

I have a little issue, and some doubt about a feature in the Editor.

I've certainly miss something.

But I've created a character with PlaceHolder

The Image into the Place is a mesh, to give some FFD effect.

I wanted to work with the PlaceHolder feature because I thought that will be easier to switch between different skin. I with this little orange icon, it was more readable on the hierarchy when you have too many elements.

But now that I started to work on a different skin, I can see that all the FFD animation doesn't work.

And I cannot copy paste the animation key between the skins.

But if my attachement with FFD animation doesn't have a PlaceHolder, everything works great.

Do I need to delete all the PlaceHolder?

Is it "normal" that the PlaceHolder doesn't take in memory the FFD animation?

What is the role of the PlaceHolder feature?

Thanks in advance for your answer.

Have a good day.

Sorry for the late reply.

Unfortunately FFD animation is not retained when you duplicate a mesh. I'll ask Nate if it's possible for him to make it do so without major work.

Placeholders are for making lots of different looking characters that use the same skeleton setup and animations, it should work with FFD and we'll certainly look into improving it so you don't have to animate your FFD multiple times.
You can take a look at the goblins example to see how it can be used.

Thank you for the reply Shiu!

Yes I saw how the placeholder work.
It's very helpful for our character.

Unfortunately, I cannot duplicate a Skin with FFD animation inside it.
The duplication lost the animation.

I tried with the gobelin, but it's the same result... the FFD animation is not retained.

The solution that I found, was to have only a part of elements with placeholder, I removed all the mesh from placeholder and they are not link to the skin.
That means that I will cannot have them in a different color/texture if I have to.

Thanks, have a good day.
