To quickly bind the same bones from a reference mesh to a new mesh, you can use the copy and paste function in the bones list of the Weights view. This feature has been available since version 4.2.
Here's how it works:
- Select your reference mesh that already has the bones bound
- In the Weights view, select all the bones in the bones list (you can use
Ctrl+A or Cmd+A to select all)
- Copy the bone bindings
- Select your target mesh
- Paste the bone bindings
This will bind all the same bones to your new mesh without having to manually select and bind each bone individually.
After binding the bones to your new mesh, you can then use the Weld feature to match the weights. Remember that Weld requires both meshes to be bound to at least the same two or more bones to work. You can choose between:
All - welds weights across all vertices
Overlapping - only welds weights for overlapping areas
This workflow is much faster than manually binding each bone, especially when working with meshes that have many bones.
