Hi everyone,
We’re a studio working on an open-world survival/automation game in Unity. One of our key characters is Black Box, a small, sentient flight recorder who follows the player, guides them through the world, and delivers sarcastic commentary (think TARS from Interstellar meets EVE from WALL·E).
Game Trailer: VIDEO
Animation example: VIDEO
We already have the concept art and in-game model. What we need help with is animating his 2D face screen in Spine 2D:
Expressions (happy, annoyed, sarcastic, worried, etc.)
Lip-sync style mouth movement that reacts to voice-over
Eye blinks, squints, wide-eye shock, loading “dots,” glitch effects, etc.
Modular setup so expressions can be triggered contextually from Unity
Requirements
Experience with Spine 2D rigging/animation
Comfort working with minimal LED-style face parts (simple shapes, but timing is everything)
Nice to Have
Knowledge of audio-driven animation (basic mouth flap or viseme system)
Interest in character animation with personality and humor
Familiarity with Unity integration (Spine runtime)
We’re looking for someone who can help us build a reusable face animation library in Spine that we can control from Unity, and potentially continue to collaborate with as the character grows.
