Import Data can only work if "Nonessential" was check when the data was exported. When checked, extra data is output that is not needed to render the skeletons in your game but is required to import back into Spine.

Oh, of course. Can you email the file that crashes on import? Any error during an import should be shown in a dialog within Spine without crashing.

Does this only apply to skeletons that use meshes, because there's a difference between the explicitly defined and auto-triangulated edges?

2. Import data, browse into Spine examples, goblins/export
3. Open goblins-ffd.json

Pharan, yes it currently only affects meshes. If nonessential is NOT checked, edges and hull length are not output. Those are not needed at runtime, but are required for Spine to be able to import the data for the reason you mentioned.

puzzler, thanks! For me it didn't crash until I clicked animate mode. The data was being imported incorrectly and the crash was happening later, after import. Fixed, thanks!
