Hi folks!
After a 5 year development, Colossus Down is done and ready to ship for PC and consoles next December.
Let me show you the trailer and give you some insight of how we used Spine in our project.
VIDEO
Every character in the game has been animated with Spine. We have over 140 skeletons with tons of skins and around 1k animations. The main characters have more than 70 animations each, it's been kind of a nightmare sometimes to manage all the mixes and track interactions, not gonna lie, but we are so happy with the results.
We used Spine to animate doors (all hail the SkeletonRendererSeparator!) and all kinds of interactive and decorative objects.
We also created portraits for all the dialogue actors and integrated a mood system based on animation mixing.
We developed some custom tools to mix skins and light different slots independently.
We optimized the runtimes to be able to have excellent performance on the Nintendo Switch.
I hope you like the result and I wanted to thank you all for the support (specially during the first years of development). Spine has been key to being able to implement our vision of what we wanted Colossus Down to become.
Please let me hear any feedback you are willing to share.
