  • 2 changes to Spine that I can't stand - What can I do?

Hi. Since I used Spien the last time, there were 2 changes introduced to Dopesheet, that really annoy me.

  1. Double clicking a keyframe deletes it. My muscle memory (not only in Spine) is that I usually click a keyframe to select it and then click and drag it. Spine treats it like double click. Pretty sure it should delete the keyframe only if the 2nd click is really a click, not a hold. Any way to turn it off except turning ALL double click actions off?
  2. Offset feature auto selects all keyframes. It's jsut really coutner intuitive for me. I didn't use any Ctrl+A or anything like that, I should have control over what I'm selecting. Also in the past I could fine tune single keyframes during offset operations without switching Offset on/off/on/off. Can I somehow make it NOT auto select all the keyframes?

1) Yep, you can turn off all double click actions in the settings. I personally use it a lot, for deleting keys and in the viewport to deselect. Some people don't like it though, especially when using a pen, so there's a setting: double click shortcuts under General.

2) Key offset was changed because it was tedious to have to select all the keys each time you use offset. I know the change is a bit jarring for those who are used to leaving offset on, as you can no longer move individual keys with it on. It may be more comfortable to not turn on the Offset button, instead hold ctrl+alt and drag a key when you want to offset. There is also alt for temporary key shift and ctrl+shift for duplicating a key (I use that a whole lot).

Note that deselect (spacebar or escape) will deselect the dopesheet keys, in case it is annoying that offset changes the selection. FWIW, in v4 key offset doesn't change your key selection, though it still offsets instead of allowing individual keys to be moved.

Hopefully the other many improvements we've made make up for these two! 🙂

Thanks for the tip with ctrl+alt, definitely using it from now on.
As for the first point - I asked "except turning ALL double click actions off" - I use double click for renaming etc., but the bit with deleting keys is really annoying for me, selecting prior to dragging is a reflex stuck so hard in my brain through the years of doing basically anything in any graphic software... 🙁

If it's doable - please at least consider not deleting keys if my 2nd click is a hold. I think no one does "click, click+hold" while trying to delete.

I didn't have a chance to find major improvements yet, but that's probably because I'm working on a rather simple skeleton and simple animation. But let me assure you - Every time I play with Spine after a longer break, I say "I love Spine" out loud as soon as I'm starting to see my stuff moving the way I wanted it to move. 😉 Genuinely love the software, but I'm coming here only when I have some issues.

Oh sorry, in my excitement to tell you about the setting I missed the part where you didn't want to use that setting. :o I agree click, press+hold should not delete a key. We won't be able to get this into 3.8, but we'll do it for 4.0.

IMO, dragging should both select and start dragging. A lot of software does it wrong though, so I understand the muscle memory.

Aw, thank you for the kinds words! 😃
