[ Dopesheet ] "Zoom Timeline to Show All Keys" doesn't work

Hi guys,

This tool seems to have changed on me.

Nowadays when I press "Zoom timeline to show all keys" in the dopesheet, Spine doesn't zoom in close enough.

In the past it would frame the dopesheet to just the keys, now it doesn't zoom in close enough.

Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong? 😢

Hello! The zoom level works as designed. It was changed because it isn't generally useful to zoom in so much that there is huge space between the keys, but if you still need to zoom all the way, you can do so by using the slider, pressing on the plus next to the slider, or the mouse wheel.

Thanks for the reply. Did you guys make this cause of user feedback? I personally really liked the older way of zooming, it was like photoshop's full zoom function (CTRL + 0) which zoomed in to see the entire canvas only. It's unfortunate "Zoom timeline to show all keys" does a mini zoom instead now.

And the "+" button seems to zoom ALL the way in .. so I still need to adjust the zoom by dragging the scroll bar.

Anyways if other people wanted the feature to be like this I guess I'm the minority. :wounded:

I don't use zooming on the timeline very much but the old one seems more consistent and natural as zooming on the canvas. I usually just use the scroll and I actually would like to have an option to disable zooming on timeline because most of the times I just want to scroll but the cursor sometimes just over the zooming area and the scroll become zoom operation unexpectedly.

The idea for the zoom button is to restore the view to something reasonable after you have zoomed in or out for a particular task. It used to zoom in as much as possible while keeping all the keys visible. That behavior isn't very useful, for example it could leave you with this:

What is the level of zoom you want? I can't imagine you'd want something like that screenshot. :bigeyed: Is it that you just want more space between keys than the button gives you?

Ah, the + and - are actually just to indicate "in" and "out". Clicking anywhere on the slider, including the + and -, sets the zoom to that position. It's unusual to need to adjust the zoom very often.

I've done this, though rarely. We'll consider a setting.

Actually yea that's kinda what I liked about the old function. Haha.. I'm the outlier I guess? Maybe an in-between solution would work? Not zoom to frame 100%, but maybe 75%? Right now it doesn't seem to zoom at all. To me anyways.. I'd love to hear what other users are experiencing.

But yea.. if majority of users want this mini zoom, then I'll just deal with it. :zipper:

I don't see a benefit to zooming is so much when snapping to frames. The only reason to zoom in so much is the rare case where you want to set a key just barely before another key (holding shift), and in that case zooming in all the way is temporary.

I guess it's just my PS habits of zooming to frame before focusing on specific parts to work on. It's fine I'll just get used to the new way of working. Thanks 🙂

Yes, it's enough space to easily see the difference between frames. Since you usually want keys to snap to frames, having more space isn't generally useful. Adjusting the timeline zoom is relatively rare, so if the button doesn't do what you want, you can easily adjust it to something else.

Ah ok. Thought my Spine was bugging out, thanks for the feature confirmation.
